Seaforth Sunday Fundays Race Series – Mission Bay

This series is similar to our Pau Hana Race Series, but WAIT it is in the Winter!

We wanted to create another informal, beginner friendly series where members can introduce their friends to the Seaforth Sail Club Family. We also want all of our recent ASA 101 graduates and new club members to have an event that strengthens their sailing skills while having a blast!

Cost:

$20 for members

$25 for non-members

$15 for new club members (New Seaforth Sail Club members get an additional discount if they have joined the club within 30 days of the signing up for the event!)

Members cannot use dues.

**When booking online, a small booking cost might be applied which not exceed $0.50. per person**

The cost of race includes a 3 hour race series, race committee, and a light lunch and water after the race. We do encourage members to bring appetizers and snacks to share. This event is BYOB or you can buy refreshments at our Mission Bay location.

Event schedule:

At least two races are scheduled for each date.
Dock call for all sailors will be at 11:30am on the date of the race.
11:30am–Pre-race meeting with sail club director will be held, where we will discuss course information and to randomly select teams.
11:45am–Teams will leave the dock in and orderly fashion and motor to the start line.
11:55am or TBD–Five Minute Warning
12:00pm or TBD—Scheduled time of the start of first Race
Races are predicted not to take longer than 3 hours.
3:00pm–Races will end, after party will follow from approx. 3pm-4pm.

-Members are STRONGLY encouraged to reserve in advance!* Boats will be filled based on the number of reservations, not by showing up or calling the day of race. A Capri 22 will be available to book for all renters during this time, so if members do not reserve ahead of time, they might lose their spot in the race.

AFTER RACE FESTIVITIES
Sailors are invited to gather after each series of races to enjoy a race recap and results announcement from the race committee. Seaforth will provide a light lunch, but sailors are encouraged to bring appetizers and snacks to share.

“SEAFORTH SUNDAY FUNDAYS” WINTER RACE SERIES
1. Objective
This series is similar to our Pau Hana Race Series, but WAIT it is in the Winter! We wanted to create another informal, beginner friendly series where members can introduce their friends to the Seaforth Sail Club Family. We also want all of our recent ASA 101 graduates and new club members to have an event that strengthens their sailing skills while having a blast!

2. Rules
2.1- The Regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
2.2- USCG “Navigation Rules, International Inland” (www.navcen.uscg.gov) apply when a vessel that is sailing under the Racing Rules of Sailing meets a vessel that is not.
2.3-Class Rules- Capri 22’s will be our primary fleet. Additional boats may be added to accommodate overflow crowds and walk-in sailors.

3. Eligibility and Entry
3.1 The regatta is open to all members of organizations affiliated with Seaforth Boat Rentals, members and guests.
3.2 All eligible Sailors should sign-up on-line at (https://seaforthboatrental.com/activities/seaforth-sunday-fundays-race-series-mission-bay/).
3.3 You may sign-up by calling the Sailing Director at 619-223-1681 before the race to be registered or placed on a waitlist.
3.4 Boat assignments will be based on date/time of sailor registration. Once our fleet of Capri 22’s reach full capacity, additional participants will be assigned to overflow fleet. REGISTER EARLY!

4. Entry Fees
4.1- $20 Registration fee for all members of Seaforth Sailing Club and $25 Registration fee for all non members.
4.2- New Members (signed up within the last 30 days of the event) will get $5 off their member registration fee ($15.00).
4.3-Registration fees include boats for teams for 3 hours, race committee, and a light lunch and water.

5. Pennants
5.1- Boat Pennants must be flown from the backstay of all boats, while racing and finishing.

6. Schedule

6.3 Races are predicted not to take longer than 3 hours. Lunch and results will be held from approx. 3pm-4pm at Seaforth Mission Bay.

7. Venue
7.1- All Sailors meet at Seaforth Boat Rentals Mission Bay.
7.2- The starting area will be outside of Quivira Basin.
7.3- The racing area covers the general locale known as Mission Bay.

8. Penalty System
8.1- For all classes, the first two sentences of Rule 44.1 are changed to: ‘A boat may take a One-Turn Penalty when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 in an incident while racing or rule 31. However, when she may have broken one or more rules of Part 2 in an incident while in the zone around a mark other than a starting mark, her penalty shall be a Two-Turns Penalty’.

9. Scoring
9.1- The Low Point Scoring System will apply.
9.2-One race is required to be completed to constitute a regatta.
9.3- Each boat’s score shall be the total of her race score. No score will be excluded.

10.Radio Communication
10.1- Radio Communication is PROHIBITED- Except in an emergency, a boat that is racing shall not make voice or data transmissions and shall not receive voice or data communication that is not available to all boats. This includes cell phones and other electronic devices.

11.Results and Prizes
11.1- Race results will be announced at the after race party and the podium winners will be published on the Seaforth Sail Club Members Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/seaforthsailingclub/).
11.2- Race prizes will be awarded to the top 3 finishers and or any other participants the race committee wants to recognize.

12.Disclaimer of Liability
12.1- Participants that enter the regatta are ENTIRELY at their own risk. Rule 4, Decision to Race (R.R.S) will apply. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death, sustained in conjunction
with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. Teams are liable for any damage created to Seaforth Boat Rental property.

13.Post Race Activities
13.1- Meet ASAP after the race for a light lunch, results, and re-hashing of the day (participants are still encouraged to bring appetizers and snacks to share) at Seaforth Boat Rentals-Mission Bay-1641 Quivira Road, San Diego, CA 92109.
